FAT LAMBS: (2249)

A consistent entry of 2249 prime lambs on Wednesday 18th September. The SQQ average was 159.5p/kg with the overall average at 158.77p/kg. 216 Lights sold to average 154.1p/kg varying from 132p/kg to 175p/kg. The top price was from D A & M G Griffiths & Son Tynllwyn with 31.5kg at £55. 838 Standards averaged 157.26p/kg varying from 143p/kg to 200p/kg. S H Lloyd & Son Manor Farm topped this section with 36kg at £72.  772 Mediums averaged 157.26p/kg with the lambs varying from 136p/kg to 192p/kg. The top call was from M J Williams Pontyperson with 42kg at £80.50. 344 Heavy’s sold to average 157.58p/kg. The top call was from H C Roberts Orseddwen with 46kg at £92.50.

FAT EWES: (702)

Less ewes on show met with a similar trade with an overall average of £37. An excellent run of Texel

ewes from D M Jones, Newbridge sold for £139, £136 & £123. 15 Rams averaged £64 with top prices of

£111 & £105 for Texel tups from W G & S P & M E Foulkes, Selattyn.

Only a small entry today following last weeks large presentation. Trade much more variable with only the best calves keenly contested. British Friesian bulls much sought after, highlight of the day was the sale of a superb suckler bred Limousin Bull which topped at £412 from Messrs Marsh Glyn Farm, others to £240 from Messrs Jerman Coedmawr. British Blue Bulls to £312 from Messrs Foulkes Maesteg, £292 & £275 from Messrs Jerman Coedmawr, £250 from Messrs Owen Tanycoed. Aberdeen Angus Bulls to £218 from Messrs Benbow Pump House, £150 from Messrs Morris Trewern. Hereford Bulls to £210 & £185 (twice) from Messrs Lewis Crumpwell. British Blue Heifers to £205 from Messrs Williams Nil Green. Aberdeen Angus Heifers to £158 from Messrs Lewis Crumpwell, £145 from Messrs Morris Trewern, £135 from Messrs Benbow Pump House. Friesian Bulls to £155 from Messrs Foulkes Maesteg, £100 & £60 from Messrs Gilman Birch Hall.

A pleasing entry of 98 store cattle met a similar trade to recent weeks with suckler bred cattle easier to place than dairy bred. Senior British Blue steers sold to £1050, Charolais steers to £995

and Hereford steers to £950 all from R G P Roberts & Son, Hengoed. Senior Charolais heifers to £1050 from D I Jones & Partners, Whittington. Limouisn heifers to £1000 from R T Lewis & Son, Trefonen. British Blue heifers to £1000 from A C & K Tomley & Son, Racecourse. Intermediate Charolais steers to £1025 from B & C G Huxley, Tainant. Simmental steers to £945 from N Evans, Pontrobert. British Blue steers to £900 from J H Williams, Llansilin, Limousin steers to £900, Charolais heifers to £920 & £915 all from T M Morgan, Llanerfyl. Intermediate Limousin heifers to £1000 from

R J Slater & Son, Baschurch. Our next sale will be held on the 25th September with entries invited for the sale on the 9th October.


This week we saw a strong entry of 350 breeding ewes and 159 store lambs, demand for both breeding ewes and store lambs was strong throughout with a large crowd of buyers present. Top price of the day of £117 went to R H Morris & Sons Y Felin for a pen of 20 Welsh Mule yearling ewes. These were closely followed by H M Rees Fronheulog who sold a pen of 16 Mule ewes at £115. More ewes and lambs needed each week to satisfy demand. The 196 yearling ewes presented averaged £101.38.
