STORE LAMBS – 1, 755

A good entry of store lambs sold to a strong trade compared to other local centres and the current fat lamb trade. We had a number of buyers present from the West Midlands, South West and Wales, which were eager to buy the lambs.

The best selling lambs were the stronger well bred lambs which sold £65 per head and the whole store lamb section averaged a very credible £57.50 per head.

Strong lambs sold between £59.00 and £65.00 per head

Medium lambs sold between £55.00 to £58.00 per head

Small lambs sold between £50.00 to £55.00 per head

Mini lambs sold between £42.00 to £45.00 per head.

We have a number of buyers present at each sale to buy store lambs with a trade as good as anywhere.

Please can we ask for good entries for the upcoming sale.

BREEDING EWES

A very good trade on all of the Ewes on offer. Plenty of buyers in attendance and with prices up by probably £8.00 - £10.00 a head. All of the yearling ewes of whatever the quality and size averaged £130.00, two year old Ewes averaged £106.00, three year olds £96.00, four Year old £92.00.

Top price of the day were for a pair of Clun Forest Ewes from Messrs. B.H & D.C. Roberts which made £178.00. Feature of the sale was the Annual Show of Clun Ewes & Rams. These attracted interest from particular buyers. Clun two year old Ewes sold up to £133.00 with Ewe Lambs to £98.00.

There was an excellent trade on all of the commercial Ewes. Mules readily sold in the £140.00 bracket, other Texel X Ewes made over £150 and there was just a better feel to everything.

The Annual Sale of Clun Forest Rams attracted the normal crowd of buyers and some 90% found new homes. The Sale Champion was a yearling from Messrs. A. E. Williams & Son, Folly Bank, which made £1071.00 and was purchased by Mr M Eckley, Treberferdd. Top price for the day however went to Messrs I.T. Davies & Son, Danyreglwys for a very smart ram lamb which made £2,100. After spirited bidding this was knocked down to Messrs. R & B Vernon, Marston Brook Farm
