A smaller entry for the Bank Holiday and a firm trade. Those buyers who came to the market wanted animals to kill on Tuesday morning.

A firm lamb trade. Plenty of buyers present, again looking for stock to kill after the Bank Holiday.

Prices were as follows:-

Standard Lambs to 190.5p av. 180.0p

Medium Lambs to 220.0p av. 182.5p

Heavy Lambs to 199.0p av. 178.7p

Overweight Lambs to 180.0p av. 169.1p

Export quality lambs sold up to 220.0p per kilo and averaged 190.8p per kilo and home trade lambs sold up to 182.5p per kilo and averaged 178.5p per kilo.

CULL SHEEP – 555

An excellent ewe trade, with buyers very keen to purchase stock as numbers tighten due to the harvest weather. Ewes will be a solid trade again next week, if you have any please bring them.

Ewes topped £104.50 and averaged £69.75

Rams topped £65.50 and averaged £59.75

FEEDING BULLS

A good show of young bulls with some real strength and power about. Plenty of bidding and more could have easily been sold.

Bulls topped at £1100.00 to average £885.00. More needed for the next sale.

FEEDING HEIFERS

A mixture of feeding and grazing cattle on offer, with a range of buyers all competing. Heifers peaked at £1060.00 to average £705.00.

FEEDING STEERS

A good Lot of steers with plenty of buyers about,

Steers topped at £970.00 to average £765.00.

A good entry of store lambs sold to a large crowd. The lambs sold to a very good trade on the week but at a slightly lower rate than the previous fortnightly sale. All the store lambs averaged a good £58.00 per head up to £70.50 per head.

Strong lambs sold between £60.00 and £70.00 per head

Medium lambs sold between £50.00 to £60.00 per head

Small lambs sold between £40.00 to £50.00 per head

Mini lambs sold between £30.00 to £40.00 per head.

LUDLOW MARKET EWE SALE - FRIDAY 23RD AUGUST 2019

A nice entry of ewes met a very firm trade with prices in general terms, similar to last year. The Texel X Ewes and Suffolk X Ewes together with the North Country Cheviot X Ewes were a very acceptable trade with the top price in the yard being a pen of Texel X yearlings which made £174.00. North Country Mules and Welsh Mules were more difficult however and the trade was much more selective. The few older ewes on offer were a good trade. The prize winners in the show classes were:

97.4% of the ewes were sold with all of the yearlings of all types, quality and size averaging £128.80. The 2 year olds averaged £112.00 and 3 year olds £114.00.

Runs of Texel X yearling Ewes sold up to £174.00 with many others in the mid £140.00 bracket. Suffolk X yearling Ewes sold up to £152.00 with many more in the mid £140.00 range and lesser sorts £130.00 plus.  Scotch Mule yearlings reached £140.00 to average £137.00 with North County Mule Yearlings to £144.00 and runs of ewes between £126.00 and £135.00. An odd pen at £140.00. North Country Cheviot Mule Yearlings sold up to £156.00 with the run being £153.00. Welsh Mule Yearlings sold up to £142.00 with others between £120.00 & £132.00. Lleyn Yearling ewes to £130.00, 3 year old Texel X sold up to £128.00 with others in the £100.00 bracket. All of the 3 year old ewes averaged £114.00.
