McCartney’s report a nice entry of store cattle at Kington Market on Tuesday 1st October 2019 for their October show and sale of store cattle.
We had a good entry of cattle, which sold to a very good trade throughout given the current fat trade and lower store cattle prices reported in other centres.
Well-bred and shaped cattle were in demand.
The ages of the cattle ranged from 10 to 20 months and weights from 340kg to 640kg.
The well-bred and good confirmation cattle which were farm assured and would hit supermarket specs sold to premium prices and these sold up to £2.10ppk for some Charolias x heifers from MJ Bayliss.
The store cattle sold to a good trade and up to £1190 per head for some Charolais x heifers from Richard Hammond.
October Cattle prices were as follows.
All steers averaged a good £1.98ppk up to £2.09ppk from Richard Hammond
The steers averaged a good £1030 per head and sold up to £1150 per head from Richard Hammond
All heifers averaged a good £1.88ppk up to £2.10ppk from MJ Bayliss
The heifers averaged a good £925 per head up to £1190 per head from Richard Hammond
All cattle forward at the sale averaged a good £985 per head from the smallest to the largest in the market.
Farm assurance is very important on store cattle and premiums were also being paid for those cattle which would meet the supermarket specs when finished.
